Drawoans

Ever hear of a Koan? Well, a Drawoan does pretty much the same thing. This group is for people who use drawing as an introspective system to learn more about themselves. Yes, I'm serious.

A Drawoan?? WTF!!

The story goes that Koans are little stories posed as questions to help zen monks guide their thought processes. These are brilliant little gems and are specifically designed to get the thinker to go nuts until the solution dawns. Not by analysis or by linear thought, but suddenly and spontaneously. Like an A-ha moment! Just like that.

How does it work?
Our thought processes, by virtue of how we learn to think- are linear. This is because of the role Causality plays in our everyday understanding of the world. Koans are designed to help you think laterally, and literally out of the box. It drives the mind into a corner where words can no longer support it. Koans help you glimpse reality directly.

Why do we have a group for this?
Quite simply because this may not be everyone's cup of tea, so I would like all subjects on this theme out of the way of mainstream drawing discussions. I Also don't want this section to devolve into a forum on witty poetry, limericks or pseudo new age mysticism. This group is really for the introspective among us.

In the passage below 'Search and Replace' the word 'words' with 'images' (I mean image in the sense of a mental construct):
"When we are born, we are born into words not into the world. Words are the supports on which our world rests; the world such as I create by words. In itself the world is neither blue, nor yellow, nor red, nor black, high, low, large, small...."
