Learn

Pencil Jammers is all about learning. We are so very clear about this. In fact the reason we promote the community as a traditional drawing media community is not because we are against digital art. We use the computer too. It's only that drawing using traditional media without the benefit of an ambient backlit screen helps you to bring in many more facets to your drawing skills.

While it feels wonderful to have some nice comments to your uploaded work, we hope that above all this site helps you learn more. Do take the time to provide insightful advice when you see that it may be helpful, and accept advice with just as much grace.

This site has many areas designed to help you learn.

Video Techniques

The Techniques section is a repository of over a hundred videos on various drawing techniques. Use this amazing resource in a targeted way. Plan your learning routine. Say you pick Perspective as the nut to crack. Search for and watch videos on 'perspective', and caarefully apply the rules that you learn one by one. Here are a few samples: DrawingWatercolour, anatomy, Tone, Portrait, Oils, Pastels, Cartoons, Sketchbooks, Landscapes and much much more.

If you are uploading a video or sharing one from youtube or Vimeo, remember to tag it with the right keywords. Tagging it as 'watercolour', 'graphite' etc helps other members to search and find these videos.

Blogs

Blogs are another great way to learn. Members use blogs to share great artwork from around the world, or to upload tutorials on drawing techniques. Browse blogs regularly to constantly inspire yourself.

Link Lists

The Links section features some links to great drawing resources from around the web. Members constantly update these links from their own discoveries. We hope you do too.

The Critiques and Feedback Group

The Critiques and Feedback Group is a great place to post your work for critiques and feedback. If you would like your work critiqued, simply go to the critiques group forum and start a new discussion. Upload your drawing using the 'image' icon on the post's toolbar, and clearly specific what you need help with. An open post invites wide ranging comments.

If you have not received feedback, don't hesitate to message a member who you feel can help. Here is a list of who to go for what, to get you started.

(Though this is a learning module, it is situated under 'Practice' in the main menu.)
