Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a self-taught artist (I don't know if I can call myself that...still and always will be a student, I guess). I use pencils, charcoal, water colours, oils...

My first love though is pencil/graphite... and the finished pencil drawings, done in an 8B Steadler, always have all the strokes that were meant to be...no use of an eraser, ruler, grid-lines...

I am an observer from heart and I can keep watching a cat, the fingers, a twig, the clouds in the sky, the waves in the sea...and sometimes weird and sometimes not so beautiful visuals, maybe awkward things...for as long as time permits. For me observation is the key... and everything about art that we want to know... is already there in nature.

And likewise, my paintings primarily depict the things I see ...or feel...the way they are...complex at times and simple at times; grainy and smooth textured at times, minimal and detailed at times. I like my drawings and paintings to narrate a story. Usually in realism, they show you what I see, as they are...without the influence of abstract...at least till now. I lack 'abstract-imagination'.

For me drawing & painting is either like meditation or like mental masturbation (for I need no one else), for the peace, release and relief I derive, is unexplainable, but all-encompassing. The feeling is for my heart to hold-on to... until the next such event...which I often look forward too.

I want to learn new ways of drawing and painting... but I must admit, I follow the traditional-style most of the time...maybe because I am self-taught, maybe because I was not exposed to the different & varied mediums and ways of expression through drawing/painting... maybe because I am still living with the tools & techniques that my drawing teacher introduced me when I was a child, in school. Hence, till now, I have stayed with just pencils, colours, brushes and a thinning medium, on paper or canvas...the basic stuff.

For me, LIFE IS ACTUALLY EASY AND SIMPLE... IF WE LET IT BE NATURAL... AND JUST SEE WHAT IT SHOWS US NATURALLY, WITHOUT ADDING ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS, WITHOUT TRYING TO UNNECESSARILY SEE ITS OTHER DISTORTED VERSIONS, WITHOUT BELIEVING IN BOUNDARIES...WITH LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE - AND LOVE IS EVERYWHERE!

LIFE IS ACTUALLY EASY, IF WE CAN BRING BEAUTY IN EVERYTHING IT HAS TO OFFER, LOOK AT IT STRAIGHT, ADMIRE and ACCEPT IT THE WAY IT IS...

STAGES OF PROGRESS_Should I be lazy or naughty today...

Stages from start to finish...from top left side to bottom right hand corner...and the final version.

I started with the outline... and then worked on the tonal values. The drawing was on a 24X30cm 130gsm cartridge sheet. The pencil used was 8B Steadtler. No erasers, no grids, no smudging technique used. Its a free-hand drawing using variation of pressure of pencil on paper to get the different tonal values. The only other tool apart from pencil is a finished pen to get the highlights…

How To Be Creative

The image of the 'creative type' is a myth. Jonah Lehrer on why anyone can innovate—and why a hot shower, a cold beer or a trip to your colleague's desk might be the key to your next big idea.

Creativity can seem like magic. We look at people like Steve Jobs and Bob Dylan, and we…
