Penciljammers celebrating a decade of drawing, we had a lovely Picnic! (2019)

The Penciljammers community was started in 2009 for the love of drawing by Penciljam. Initially set up as an off-line group to draw in their sketchbooks with their friends. Penciljammers has held over 1000 weekend sketching meets in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Kerala. Inspiring many more to set up their own weekend drawing clubs.

The community started with "Focus on objective and often representative visuals." We continue to encourage this line of thought as drawing from observation helps you form a good foundation. Figurative, observational or representational art allows us to evaluate our skills and techniques, and learn as we go along, which holds true even when sketch journaling or illustrating. Over the past decade penciljammers has evolved from purely representational art to sketching and sketch journaling. Digital, sheets of paper ,sketchbook anything that works for you!

What is unique about penciljammers?

We believe in tradition

Pencil Jammers respects the principle of a strong foundation in traditional media. While digital art media is incredible fun and allows you to do some really amazing art, we feel that the tactile sense that various traditional media allow for, is an important part of learning to draw. This foundation of traditional media is also your gateway to good Digital art :)

We want to share

Pencil Jammers are articulate and informative about their drawing experiences. Remember, this is a community that helps each other draw. By objectively describing your drawing experiences, the materials and media you have used, the method you approach drawing, you help other members sharpen their skills.

We observe

Yes, it is so much fun to draw, at times even making a mark is a fantastic experience! We focus on the objective of our drawing, be it while drawing our surroundings or illustrating. This is not to say that abstract art is not appreciated, but sketching allows us to evaluate our skills and techniques on the go, and learn about our surroundings as we never did before. While there are occasional abstract concepts uploaded, we encourage you to work on observational projects. This in the long run aids you with illustrating, design and drawing from imagination.
